On Sunday 29 November 2015 members of The 1879 Group attended a Service of Dedication in memory of three defenders of Rorke's Drift, members of the 24th Regiment, at Witton Cemetery in Birmingham.
The Dedication was in memory of: Sgt Joseph Windridge Pte Robert Cole Pte Samuel Parry
We were joined at the Dedication by members of The Diehards.
There was a short welcome from the Royal British Legion County Chair, Councillor Anita Ward. This was followed by a short account of the Defence of Rorke's Drift given by Mr Bill Cainan, the former Curator of The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh, Brecon. Mr Graham Mason, an Anglo-Zulu War researcher, then gave an account of the life of Sergeant Joseph Windridge.
A service of Dedication was then led by Father Oliver Coss of The Royal Britis Legion.
The event was organised by Drum Major Tim Needham RM.
